In the first cave, see the impressive 47-foot-long reclining Buddha carved out of rock, surrounded by images of deities associated with Buddhism. The walls and ceilings feature ancient frescoes, some over-painted during the Kandy period. The second cave, the largest and most magnificent, houses 150 life-sized Buddha statues in various postures, along with statues of gods and kings. Its ceilings are adorned with frescoes depicting significant events from the life of the Buddha and key moments in Sinhalese history. The excursion, including the climb and descent, takes approximately 1.5 hours.
